July 25 Art Dump

July 25, 2010

I took part in yesterday’s Draw event, hosted by a number of artist-run centres and studios around Edmonton. Harcourt House offered an afternoon full of life drawing with live models. This is the first time I’ve ever done life study in a studio setting, so it provided a really interesting new challenge. It made me realize, though, that I need to stop thinking primarily in terms of contours. These were 30-minute poses, and I spent about 25 minutes on each agonizing over the lines and shapes instead of the form, value, and shading. That’s something I need to focus on some more.
