Doodle-a-Day: January 21
I’ve been following a blog called The ArtOrder, the personal blog of Wizards of the Coast Art Director Jon Schindehette. For some time, Jon organized art challenges for artists in the industry, soliciting submissions for varying themes. I always told myself I’d get involved in them, but then they just stopped happening for a while. That’s why, when Jon announced on his recently re-launched blog, that he’d be hosting another challenge, I jumped at the opportunity.
The new challenge is all about Nymphs. You can read all the details here, but at its simplest, the idea is to draw some sort of nymph, inspired by some sort of nymph-like tale or environment. Nymphs apparently get around, and can be found in all kinds of biomes: lakes, forests, mountains, valleys, you name it. It’s the last one that caught my attention. What’s a valley nymph, anyway? If modern slang has adopted the word “nymph” for a completely different meaning, maybe the modern nymph is a bit of a valley girl herself…
This was one of the most fun pieces I’ve done in a while, and I’m glad I finally decided to bite the bullet and take part in one of these challenges. Submissions are due tonight, and voting will open tomorrow on the ArtOrder’s Facebook page, so be sure to head over there and Like my entry!
