Thing-a-Week 14: Phoning it in

If there was going to be a week that I needed an excuse to be late, it might as well be the one where I’m working to deadline on three major papers. Nothing fancy this week, I’m afraid. Just a notebook doodle and a preview of my next dino painting. Hopefully I’ll have something more substantial once I’m clear past all this writing.

At least Caitlin’s Thing-a-Week is running behind schedule this week too — I suppose I don’t feel so bad about it in that case.

Travel Blog: Intermission

Assuming anyone is actually following regular updates on this thing (I’d be flattered to make it to anyone’s RSS feed), I know I promised Nova Scotia updates tonight. However, the Atlantic time zone is killing my sleep habits, and this time of night is hardly ideal for any update in the blogosphere. FlamesNation Update: The Problem as I see it

My latest update on FlamesNation details the issues that the Calgary Flames have been working through in the playoffs so far.

As much as I hate to admit it, TSN summed things up best in tonight’s second-intermission commentary. Tonight was the exact same game as Thursday’s, only the Flames gave in 20 minutes earlier. In both games, the Flames came out strong, hitting hard, putting shots on net, producing offense, all while throwing down a stone-solid defense to prevent the Hawks from notching anything on the scoreboard. Though it seems unusual when referring to Calgary, the first period has not been the problem in this series.

Rent-a-Hookah

Here’s something that former U of A SU Vice President (Operations & Finance) Chris Cunningham never considered when he bought hookahs for the Powerplant: start a business and just rent them out!

Launched last year, Deliver-a-Bowl rents hookahs — Indian water pipes used for smoking tobacco or more illicit substances — for $15 apiece, or $13 each for two or more. The pipes come with flavored tobacco; varieties include everything from peach, grape and guava to chocolate mint or Irish crème.

And when renters are finished, Deliver-a-Bowl comes back and picks the hookahs back up.
